The painting depicts a full-length representation of Adam and Eve against a black background, with the tree of knowledge between them. The figure of Adam on the left appears to scratch his head, while placing his right hand on an apple offered to him by Eve. She stands on the right side and smiles at him, while holding a branch to cover herself. The brown curls of her hair fan out across her back. The position of her legs in anatomically inaccurate. A serpent coils itself around a branch in the tree that is laden with apples, and appears to move towards Eve.
