The sheet is the cover page of the second volume of the Lutheran bible that belonged to Prince Georg III of Anhalt, a three volume edition printed in 1541 on parchment [Georg 1476.2°]. An illustration of 'Law and Grace' was also represented in the third volume. The present image depicts Melanchthon as a half-length figure, facing left against a bright blue background. Melanchthon is wearing the typical black gown. The image is framed by a blue boarder containing the nine coats-of-arms of Anhalt as well as Melanchthon's own coat-of-arms, which is located beneath the image.
