Agony in the Garden

DESCRIPTION

Tools/Material:

- fluid black medium, brush; initial design probably executed employing a very diluted medium

Type/Ductus:

- very detailed freehand underdrawing

- thin to broader lines, frequently very long; hatching-strokes

Function:

- binding for the final painted version (where no changes were made); lines delineate the main contours and define essential details and facial features; representation of volume with hatching-strokes

Deviations:

- minor alterations made during the painting process to clearly define forms; significant changes made to the two disciples at the right side

The Flagellation

DESCRIPTION

Tools/Material:

- fluid black medium, brush; initial design probably executed employing a very diluted medium

Type/Ductus:

- very detailed freehand underdrawing; construction lines in the architecture drawn with a ruler

- thin to broader lines, frequently very long; hatching-strokes

Function:

- binding for the final painted version (where no changes were made); lines delineate the main contours and define essential details and facial features; representation of volume with hatching-strokes

Deviations:

- minor alterations made during the painting process to clearly define forms; some changes (e. g. position of the leg and head of Christ)

- a workshop colleague of the Master of the Pflock Altar
