Despite the prohibition of images of God even in the Catholic Church here he is shown in the cloud. The dove beneath represents the Holy Spirit. Three men kneel in front of the suffering Christ and worship him. In contrast another group of three men worship a golden statue of Mercury (the Roman god of commerce, communication and trickery). This pagan activity is emphasized by the turban worn by one of the men.
