Description:
Philipp Melanchthon is depicted as a half-length figure turned slightly to the right. He presents the viewer with an open book with a quotation from Rom 8,31. There is a Latin inscription at the bottom edge of the painting, on the front side of a stone balustrade. There is a cast-shadow on the wall behind the sitter. [Dittmeyer, Schloss Gottorf 2013]
