A half-length portrait of Philipp Melanchthon depicted against a blue backround facing to the left with his arms folded.

On the reverse of the panel strips of paper bearing a Latin text are attached to both the top and the bottom. A laurel wreath with a red coat-of-arms in the centre was painted in the middle of the panel on a dark ground. The coat-of-arms depicts a golden snake wound around the cross.
