St Catharine is depicted standing in front of a wall facing to the right. In her right hand she holds a sword and in her left a stone. Behind the wall a path through a landscape leads to a town at the top of the painting. The original composition is similar to that of the Dessau altarpiece or the composition of the painting in the cathedral of Erfurt.

DESCRIPTION

- an underdrawing is not readily visible

- an initial painted version shows an architectural element, which suggests that the panel together with the present pendant piece were originally part of a larger composition showing a Virgin and Child in the central position - this observation is confirmed in the x-radiograph.
