A full-length figure of Adam standing against a black background on a narrow strip of grass. Adam is shown frontally, facing the viewer, only the inclination of his head to the right has caused his torso to turn slightly. In his left hand he holds a branch to cover his private parts and appears to scratch his head with his right hand. His angled arm creates a counterpoint to his right hip. The cropped tree of knowledge is visible at the right edge. An apple hangs from a branch above Adam.
