Research History / Discussion

'The painting photographed here exhibits characteristics typical of the work by Cranach the Elder, the insignia is authentic and it is dated '1529'.

Max J. Friedländer, Berlin, d. 27. IV.1925'

[copy of the expertise on the reverse of a photograph in the Archive D. Koepplin]

An expertise by Max. J. Friedländer mentions the date 1529 and an insignia, however a recent examination under the stereomicroscope revealed the number to be a '0', which matches with the early style of the painting.
