The Virgin sits with the child shifted slightly to the left of the central axis. Both are turned to the right where two of the kings offer their gifts. The infant Christ, who like his mother has a halo of short rays around his head, grasps at the gold coins presented to him by the old king on his knees. Standing behind him a middle-aged king holds a chalice in his hands. Both have already removed their head attire, while the third king, who stands to the left of the Virgin and looks out at the viewer, is in the process of removing his. A larger piece of wall rises up behind the Virgin, who is enveloped in a broad, red robe. It is crowned by a broken column and serves as a backdrop for the Virgin. An expansive landscape is visible in the background and the star that guided the Magi to Jesus shines brightly in the sky.
