The old man puts his arm around a young woman's waist and presents a gold chain to her in his other hand. The lewd expression in his eyes and the distorted smile revealing his damaged teeth leave us with no doubt about his intentions. However the young woman clearly has the edge. She strokes his beard and offers the hint of a smile. Her pretty dress with its laced bodice and puffed sleeves, her loose hair and childlike expression are all calculated to make the old man submissive.
