Recto:

St Bartholomew as a full-length figure in a landscape. His skin hangs over his left arm as a symbol of his martyrdom, in his right hand he holds a knife. In his left hand he holds an open book in which he appears to read.

Verso:

The reverse is badly

St Bartholomew as a full-length figure in a landscape. His skin hangs over his left arm as a symbol of his martyrdom, in his right hand he holds a knife. In his left hand he holds an open book in which he appears to read.

Verso:

The reverse is badly damaged but in the lower section it is possible to make out sinners in purgatory being saved by an angel dressed in yellow. Above them is Christ enthroned as judge of the world. This section of the image can only be fragmentarily interpreted on the basis of the hand raised in blessing, which exhibits wounds from nails.

Type/Ductus:

- freehand underdrawing

- either washes or the initial design was executed employing a diluted medium

- relatively binding for the final painted version; lines delineate contours and indicate the essential details; representation of volume with occasional hatching-strokes and possibly some washes
