On a field of pale green and ochre with shrubs and grass, three horsemen approach from the left with eight brown and white hunting-dogs, in pursuit of a herd of deer. A few of these are attempting to escape by swimming across a brook. Behind the field rowing-boats are seen on a stretch of running water. Along the fancifully-formed banks foxes, rabbits, and a few men can be observed. On the far right is a wooden bridge leading to a rock which rises sharply upwards, on its summit a light-coloured castle with blue-green roofs. An undulating landscape stretches out on the left of the rock. On the horizon is a big walled city; houses, churches, towers, and a citadel, which stands out against the ruddy-yellow glow of the sky on light blue-green.
