The painting shows a full-length depiction of the saint in bishop's vestments. Brown curls poke out from underneath his white mitre. In his left hand Erasmus hold a crosier, the crook is decorated with vegetation and in his right hand he holds the spindle with his intestines as a reference

The painting shows a full-length depiction of the saint in bishop's vestments. Brown curls poke out from underneath his white mitre. In his left hand Erasmus hold a crosier, the crook is decorated with vegetation and in his right hand he holds the spindle with his intestines as a reference to his martyrdom. The figure is set against a landscape. Vertical elements like the castle on the rocky outcrop and a tree on the right provide the saint with a frame within the composition.
