The panel depicts the saint in a river with the infant Christ standing on his left shoulder in the act of blessing. The figures occupy the entire pictorial space. The child wears a white robe, his nimbus is stamped in the gold guilding of the panel. Christopher supports the

The panel depicts the saint in a river with the infant Christ standing on his left shoulder in the act of blessing. The figures occupy the entire pictorial space. The child wears a white robe, his nimbus is stamped in the gold guilding of the panel. Christopher supports the child with his left hand while holding a long stick in his right hand. Beneath his green robe he wears white ruffled trousers and there is a touch of red visible on his sleeve. A large bag containing food is attached to his belt as well as a sword, of which only the handle is visible. At the edge of the river the hermit is shown in front of his retreat.
