Title

Three Apostles (fragment of a larger work)

Painting on wood

The panel is a fragment from a larger work (possibly a depiction of 'The Ascension of Christ'). Set against a mountainous landscape three men gaze upwards. The youthful figure on the left with his head of fair curls tilted back and his hands joined in prayer could be St John

The panel is a fragment from a larger work (possibly a depiction of 'The Ascension of Christ'). Set against a mountainous landscape three men gaze upwards. The youthful figure on the left with his head of fair curls tilted back and his hands joined in prayer could be St John the Evangelist together with a further two apostles. The central figure has a beard and brown hair, while the third also has curly fair hair, but is more fleshy and is shown here in profile.
