The retable consists of a shrine with five carved figures - the Virgin and Child in an aureole flanked by Sts Catharine and Maurice (r.) and Sts Barbara and Nicolas (l.) - , four wing panels and a predella displaying the donors' coats of arms: the von Werder family (heraldic right) and the von Stechow family (heraldic left).[1]

The predella also functions as the base of the retable and as such does not have a geometric form. The Mass of St Gregory is painted at the centre on a surface measuring c. 50 x 43 cm and occupies the entire height of the base. It is flanked by the coats of arms belonging to the von Werder and the von Stechow families, positioned either side on a dark ground.

In 1913/1914 the altarpiece was restored in Berlin-Wilmersdorf by the artist Rief while the church building was undergoing construction work.
