DESCRIPTION

Tools/Material:

- fluid, black medium, brush; probably executed in two stages

Type/Ductus:

- freehand and loose underdrawing (probably after a pre-existing design)

- thin to broader lines; some very long

Function:

- only relatively binding for the final painted version, in sections only roughly indicated main contours; the lines define the main contours and describe essential details as well as facial features; no representation of volume with hatching-strokes.

Deviations:

- corrections were made to forms during the painting process; numerous small changes for example in the faces and hands, the sword and the flowers on Christ’s head as well as the angels in the sky.
