DESCRIPTION

Type/Ductus:

- freehand underdrawing (probably after a pre-existing design)

Thinner to somewhat broader lines, so rather long

Function:

- relatively binding fort he final painted version; the lines delineate the main contours, and describe details as well as facial features; no representation of volume with hatching-strokes

Deviations:

- minor corrections were made to forms during the painting process; small changes for example in the faces and the hilt of St Peter’s sword.
