Among the mythological works from the Cranach workshop episodes from Ovid's Metamorphosis are comparatively rare and were first illustrated at a very late stage; [...] The surviving works often exhibit workshop quality; in the present work the size of the heads of some of the women is particularly striking. In contrast the rich und carefully executed landscape corresponds with the usual standard from the Cranach workshop.
