He wears a black coat with a fur collar over his black gown. In his hands, which are lowered, he holds a black hat with gold decoration. He wears numerous chains and has rings on the fingers of his left hand.

‚This variant was created in the same year as the portrait of the margrave with a hat (SPSG_GKI1048). Whereas the other portrait with its reference to the signet ring and the direct eye contact with the viewer can be interpreted as a representative portrait of a ruler, here the protestant Duke appears to be in contemplative prayer. ‘
