The painting depicts a half-length portrait of a woman, facing left in front of a curtain that reveals a view through a window of a landscape, including a settlement on a rocky outcrop. Her dark dress with the letters 'WAW' embroidered in white on the cuffs suggests her middle-class origin.

The painting depicts a half-length portrait of a woman, facing left in front of a curtain that reveals a view through a window of a landscape, including a settlement on a rocky outcrop. Her dark dress with the letters 'WAW' embroidered in white on the cuffs suggests her middle-class origin. Her hair is covered by head attire, which recalls a wreath of flowers and is also embroidered with letters on the band ('A.D.O.R.O'). This may have been a marriage portrait and might have had a male companion piece.
