The Virgin as a half-length figure is seated against a black background facing the viewer, with long fair hair falling over her shoulders. She wears a red robe, and, on her lap, she supports the standing figure of the infant Christ with both hands. He looks inquiringly at the viewer with his head tilted to one side and while grasping his mother’s thumb with his left hand he plucks a grape from the bunch she is holding with his other one.
