Summary:

  • signature and date are lying on overpaint and cannot be original

  • the panel consists of two vertical boards of unidentified hardwood, thickness 2 cm

  • along all four sides the edges have been rabbeted. When the ground was applied the panel was in a frame, as can be seen by barbs running along all four edges.

  • the X-rays show that two 20 cm wide areas has been strengthened with fibres, one across the upper and one across the lower part of the panel. Also a big knot in the wood has been covered with fibres. The wood in the areas with fibres were scratched before the ground was applied.
