The panel shows a half-length portrait of Johann Georg I, Count of Mansfeld, facing to his left against a sky-blue background with his gaze fixed beyond the viewer. He is wearing an elegant green tunic with a matching fur-trimmed cloak, and a white ruffed shirt with gold edging is just visible at the neckline. He has close-cropped hair and his reddish blond beard is relatively short. Around his neck he has a linked chain, two rings decorate the index and ring finger of his left hand. His hands are clasped in front of him holding a pair of beige gloves. At the top of the panel is an inscription identifying the sitter on a brown background.
