The Virgin is depicted as a half-length seated figure against a dark background. She looks at the viewer with her head inclined to the left. Her long blond hair is only covered by an almost invisible veil, the edge of which draws a fine line above her eyes. The naked infant Christ stands on her knee and is supported by her while eating a grape. In the bottom left corner the infant St John the Baptist sleeps.
