This small scale half length portrait is one of a pair and shows Sibylle of Cleve against a blue background, facing to her right. Her blouse with its high collar and the laced bodice correspond with German renaissance fashion, whereas the black dress with the stiff collar and puffed sleeves reveals the influence of Spanish fashion that was spreading throughout Europe. A snood decorated with pearls, three gold chains and numerous rings on her finger complete her outfit. The initials 'HK' interlinked are embroidered in pearls on both the collar and snood.
