This full-length portrait of Princess Marie (1562-1566), the younger sister of Prince Christian I of Saxony belongs to a series of six portraits completed between 1563 and 1565, depicting Elector Augustus of Saxony (1526-1586), his wife, Princess Anna of Denmark (1532–1585) and their four children. This full-length portrait of Princess Marie (1562-1566), the younger sister of Prince Christian I of Saxony belongs to a series of six portraits completed between 1563 and 1565, depicting Elector Augustus of Saxony (1526-1586), his wife, Princess Anna of Denmark (1532–1585) and their four children. Marie who died aged three is shown here holding a doll and facing right, while standing on a marble floor she casts a shadow on the neutral background. She is wearing a long dress with puffed sleeves and a white apron. Her head is covered by a tight-fitting white bonnet and her attire is completed by two long necklaces.
