A half-length portrait of Johann Ernst of Saxony (1521-1553), facing left against a neutral background in front of a low stone wall. He is dressed in an ornate tunic with a pearl embroidered collar under a fur-trimmed cloak. Two chains decorate his chest, one with a small pendant. A pearl earring dangles from his left ear, and a black beret is set at an angle on his head. He holds his gloves in his right hand, and prominently shows the two rings on his left hand.
