The Virgin is depicted as a half-length seated figure set against a dark green curtain. She wears her hair down and it is covered by an almost transparent veil. Her hands gently support the infant Christ who is standing on her lap. The infant St John stands to Christ's right, wearing the characteristic camel hair robe and offering him an apple, which he touches softly.
