Research History / Discussion

The figure of St George has been considered to be either a portrait of Stangen von Oberledel/Meissen [see Exhib. Cat. Munich 1934, no. 26] and [Böhler online database, accessed 29.08.2022] and more recently by [Sandner, Email 17.09.2022] as Bernhard (?) Pflugk with reference to the Pflugk family coat of arms on the reverse of the panel.

[cda 2022]

This St George and a similarly sized St Christopher [IE_NGI_NGI-973] could be wing panels from a lost altarpiece commissioned by the Stangen von Oberledel family.
