Holding a T-shaped cross in his left hand the naked infant Christ is shown in an attitude of blessing against a dark background stepping towards us on a thin strip of ground. A serpent coils around his legs in the shape of a figure of eight and bites its own

Holding a T-shaped cross in his left hand the naked infant Christ is shown in an attitude of blessing against a dark background stepping towards us on a thin strip of ground. A serpent coils around his legs in the shape of a figure of eight and bites its own tail. Rather than touching the ground the child's left leg rests on the serpent's head, identifying him as the vanquisher of sin. [Görres, cda 2017]
