Artist's insignia on the stone: serpent (with elevated wings) and date '1527'
Description:
Adam and Eve stand close together under the heavily laiden tree of knowledge with the serpent. Eve gives Adam the apple. Around them are a stag, a deer, a lion, two partridges and a hare. The background is filled with shrubbery. This is an early version of a subject frequently depicted by Cranach. [Dittmeyer, Schloss Gottorf 2013]
