Support

- beech wood

- the panel consists of one plank

According to the most recent examination carried out by Dr. Peter Klein the wood is from the same tree as that of the following panels:

Duke John of Saxony, OKM 67 (Brett I)

Portrait of a Young Woman, Helsinki Synebrichoff Museum 316

Portrait of Hans Melber, München Alte Pinakothek, WAF 169

Young Girl, Paris Louvre, R.F. 1767

The Age of Silver, Paris Louvre, R.F. 1184

Paint Layers and Gilding

- the beret was originally much larger - perhaps a hat?

- the rendition of the stomacher and the fur was originally different, perhaps broader as the 'hat' is considerably cropped on the left side

Framing

- black frame with gilded decorative elements, end of the 19th century
