At the centre of the painting is the half-length figure of Christ in a greenish blue robe with a broad gold braid around the neckline, on the sleeves and the red coat. With the index finger of his left hand he points at the sinner, who is shown as a young woman in contemporary dress - green velvet with gold edging - and with her hair pinned up. A group of bearded men stand at the right edge. Three figures are shown at the left edge: two wear head attire, while the one at the front expresses envy.

Research History / Discussion

This version of the adulteress in Fulda does not exhibit the Latin inscription that was usual on Post-Reformation versions of this subject and for this reason Schenk zu Schweinsberg suggested a dating before 1517.
