DESCRIPTION

- dark, fluid drawing medium and brush

Type/Ductus:

- rough, freehand underdrawing; partially with traced lines

- thin lines; predominately long and unbroken

Function:

- binding for the final painted version; lines delineate contours, define shapes and features; no representation of volume

Deviations:

- a few minor alterations made during the painting process to clearly define form

INTERPRETATION

Attribution:

- the underdrawing does not satisfy the criteria to associate it with the Cranach workshop

Comments:

- possibly transferred from a pre-existing design (traced ?)
