Condition Reports

Date2018

Support:

  • cropped at the bottom and top

  • the panel exhibits a convex warp

  • vertical cradle members, pine, the horizontal members were removed in 1985, causing vertical splitting. Later stabilised with 6 balsa wood blocks distributed along the join and splits; two more flat rectangular beech wood blocks; relatively new toolmarks, probably created wen the panel was smoothed

Varnish:

  • the painting has a glossy resin varnish, which was probably repeatedly applied with a brush. Only a few relatively new retouches could be identified under UV light because of the strong fluorescence of this layer.
