St Catharine is depicted standing in front of a wall facing to the right. In her right hand she holds a sword and in her left a stone. Behind the wall a path through a landscape leads to a town at the top of the painting. The original composition is

The original composition is similar to that of the Dessau altarpiece or the composition of the painting in the cathedral of Erfurt.
