A composition of many figures showing Christ on the cross at the centre, flanked by the two thieves. At the left side a soldier stands beneath the cross with the vinegar soaked sponge. Mary Magdalene has fallen on her knees beside him. At the left edge John the Evangelist supports the Virgin. At the right side the converted centurion looks up at the cross. In front of him the henchmen fight over Christ's robe.
