DESCRIPTION

Tools/Material:

- fluid dark medium, brush

Type/Ductus:

- detailed, freehand underdrawing

- relatively thin lines with short, curved lines defining the nose; occasionally characteristic fine hatching strokes (cheekbones, knees, shadow on the rod and the lance)

Function:

- relatively binding for the final painted version; the lines delineate the main contours, define forms therein and describe facial features; some representation of volume with hatching strokes

Deviations:

- minor corrections were made to forms during the painting process; small changes (e. g. in the area of the legs)
