This small format panel shows Christ on the cross between the Virgin and St John. St Mary Magdalene kneels at the base of the cross, embracing the shaft in an attitude of prayer, while looking up at Christ. Blood streams down his corpse and the decorative form of his loincloth

This small format panel shows Christ on the cross between the Virgin and St John. St Mary Magdalene kneels at the base of the cross, embracing the shaft in an attitude of prayer, while looking up at Christ. Blood streams down his corpse and the decorative form of his loincloth stands out againt the stormy sky, where dark clouds, lined with red and yellow have drawn together above a brighter yellow strip on the horizon.
