Summary of condition report, auctioned at Galerie Fischer, 31.05.2006:

Support:

  • wooden panel thinned and cradled

  • some open old worm channels

  • a fine horizontal split across the panel at the height of the infant Christ's hand, retouched

Paint Layers:

  • craquelée visible in the flesh paint

  • small retouches in the flesh paint and hair

  • the areas of shadow are somewhat abraded and contours have in places been reinforced

  • retouched loss at the top of the Virgin's head

Coatings:

  • the painting exhibits a slightly yellowed varnish and some surface dirt
