The infant Christ is shown at the centre of the composition, standing on the Virgin’s lap and bearing his weight on his right leg. He is gently supported by the seated female figures, framing him in a triangle. The Virgin is at the apex, her head tilted slightly to her right and her hair worn loose. St Catharine is shown on the left and is identified by the hilt of a sword, while the woman on the right is probably St Barbara. The figurative group is set in front of a curtain held at either corner by a cherub.

Evidently a later copy of the painting in Erfurt Cathedral [DE_DSME_NONE-DSME001].

[Friedländer, Rosenberg 1979, 97, no. 134B]

Three further copies or versions are known to exist. A version with similar dimensions to the painting in Erfurt Cathedral that is now in St Joseph's Servite Convent, Innsbruck [AT_SJI_NONE-SJI001] and two smaller versions, one attributed to Wolfgang Krodel the Elder, which is in Schloss Eggenberg, Graz [AT_UMJ_101] and another one attributed to an anoymous artist, which is in the National Gallery in Prague [CZ_NGP_DO4566].
