A portrait of Christoph Tiedemann, Canon of Lübeck identified by the coat of arms on the wall behind him. The sitter is shown in an interior, facing to his right in a fine costume of velvet and fur with a beard and a black velvet beret. He holds a handkerchief with the initials ‘Y’ and ‘M’ embroidered on it in his clasped hands and has seven gold rings (one, a signet ring stamped with the same armorial shield as above). At the left two lizard engage on the sill of a window that reveals a view of a fortress in a landscape.
