August is shown seated at a desk, looking out at the viewer with his hands demonstratively folded in prayer. He is wearing a Spanish tunic, richly embroidered with gold, his head is bare, and his has a well-kept beard and moustache. A leather-bound book rests on the desk and a gathered curtain serves as a backdrop to the scene.
