Recto: full-length depiction of St Romanus, facing left against a dark background. The saint has a sword and a shield and is wearing armour typical of the sixteenth century. Verso: full-length depiction of St John the Evangelist facing right against a dark background. He is wearing a red robe and holds a chalice filled with poison in his left hand. With a gesture of blessing St John drives the poison - depicted here as a serpent - from the chalice. [Görres, cda 2015]
