The death of the Virgin is shown in the centre of the image. She sits upright in an alcove-bed the sides of which run parallel to the picture plane. The twelve apostles have gathered around the bed to take leave of the Virgin. To the extreme unction they bring gifts

The death of the Virgin is shown in the centre of the image. She sits upright in an alcove-bed the sides of which run parallel to the picture plane. The twelve apostles have gathered around the bed to take leave of the Virgin. To the extreme unction they bring gifts of books, a cross as well as jars of ointment and frankincense. The apostle John closes the Virgin's hands around a candle. The Virgin's bed has a carved bedend and a velvet curtain, it is raised on a pedestal and positioned within a tiled interior with a round window.

There is a crest of husband Opl of Fictum (Vitzthum) on the right heraldic side, the golden shield features a black truncated branch with three red apples. The other side depicts the crest of the family of his wife Perglar or Perglas, the shield on the crest is divided into three fields: black on top, white in the middle and black on the bottom.
