Tools/Materials:
- fluid, black medium and brush in combination with a dry drawing material; facial features may have been executed with a fine pointed brush, the folds in the draperies (the Virgin’s robe) were executed employing a dry drawing material, chalk – this may also have been employed for the initial design?

- mainly copied lines; freehand underdrawing in the draperies
- thin to slightly broader lines
Function:
- relatively binding for the final painted version; lines delineate contours and describe the essential details and the facial features; no representation of volume
Deviations:
