The upright rectangular painting, which probably originally functioned as an epitaph, shows the vindication of man through faith, a central subject of the Lutheran doctrine. Against the backdrop of a rocky landscape a man wearing only a white loincloth is depicted to the left of the central axis striding forward.

The upright rectangular painting, which probably originally functioned as an epitaph, shows the vindication of man through faith, a central subject of the Lutheran doctrine. Against the backdrop of a rocky landscape a man wearing only a white loincloth is depicted to the left of the central axis striding forward. Two prophets walk behind him and their heads and gestures follow the man's gaze. St John the Baptist is pictured on the right pointing towards the crucifixion at the edge of the painting. A scene showing the brazen serpent is visible to the left of the cross and Christ triumphant over death and the devil on the right, above them the Virgin appears on top of Mount Tabor. At the left edge half a tree is visible, rich with foliage.
