Recto: the inner side of the panel depicts St Maurice standing in a landscape. He is wearing decorative armour and a broad-rimmed hat with striking plumage. The saint is turned to the central panel and holds a double handled sword and a banner with a coat of arms in his hands.
Verso: The saint is shown as a full-length figure positioned under an arch with renaissance ornamentation. This architectural element is repeated on all the panels open at this stage. St John is turned to the right and holds a chalice in his hands. His blessing has caused the poison to escape, which is illustrated here as two writhing snakes.
